E中比较对象为imbalances和United States record exports。其他选项同理。

A中比较对象为imbalances和trade deficit，正确。

你可能误以为这里是国家和国家的对比，但是有时间的话，仔细看句子结构，A选项的句子结构为：In contrast to…, the United States trade deficit… declined… 谓语动词declined表明此句主语应该是“贸易赤字”，而不是“美国”。
