wish 后面不是用虚拟么？

这里不是用except 更合适么？
4 His relatives could never understand ___why Henry did such a crazy thing___.
这题是不是因为主句的 could 是过去时候，所以后面从句不可以是现在时？

1 本题是表示将来时，不定式在此处是为了呼应将来时，分词显然不行，因为不是过去或现在的事
2 是的，此处也是用的虚拟，were是对现在的虚拟
3 如果except后面接从句，那么就要加that来引导，except一般作介词，后面直接加人或物
4 首先要了解句意，很多时候一个句子里可以掺杂很多时态，那就要看句子的意思，来判断。此处明显是讲的过去的事情，Henry已经做了the crazy thing
