Sunheat has found it useful to segment the market for solar pool heaters by purchaser type: the residential market, the commercial market, and the governmental and institutional markets. The commercial segment for pool heaters includes such target markets as hotels, motels, apartments, health clubs, resorts, and so on; while the governmental and institutional segment is made up of government building (all levels), schools, hospitals, etc.
Among the most important consumer needs which could be fulfilled by solar pool heating would be economy, ease of installation, adequate servicing, environmental concerns, prestige, and others. The relative importance of these needs depends upon the target market. For example, residential consumers may be most interested in satisfying prestige, economy, and/or service needs, with preferences varying across individuals or target markets within the residential segment. For the commercial and governmental/institutional segments, service and economy would likely be more important needs, although for some such consumers, prestige might be a consideration as well (e.g. high quality image hotels, high-rent apartment building). 展开
