Nantong’s woodcut Luanr New Year folk painting takes an important role in the local culture of Nantong. With distinct local features, its woodcut folk painting is an embedment of Nantong’s historical and cultural heritage. This essay is an attempt to discuss the art and cultural values of this folk painting. Utilizing the painting’s characters for cartoon image design, through research and study of various aspects including image selection, character design, color matching, production technique, a series of souvenirs design with cartoon image design were carried out, in the aim to better display the art value and local features of Nantong’s woodcut Luanr New Year folk painting. A better fusion of Nantong’s woodcut Luanr New Year folk painting and tourism craft souvenirs might be achieved by more balanced input of sense and sensibility.
