Two central Pennsylvania friends spent most of March in a text-messaging record attempt, exchanging a thumbs-flying total of 217,000.

For one of the two, that meant an inches-thick itemized bill for $26,000.

Nick Andes, 29, and Doug Klinger, 30, were relying on their unlimited text messaging plans to get them through the escapade, so Andes didn't expect such a big bill.

"It came in a box that cost $27.55 to send to me," he said. He said he "panicked" and called T-Mobile, which said it would investigate the charges.

The two Lancaster-area residents have been practically non-stop texters for about a decade since they attended Berks Technical Institute together.

That led Andes to search for the largest monthly text message total he could find posted online: 182,000 sent in 2005 by Deepak Sharma in India.

Andes and Klinger were able to set up their phones to send multiple messages. During a February test run they found they could send 6,000 or 7,000 messages on some days, prompting the March messaging marathon.

"Most were either short phrases or one word, 'LOL' or 'Hello,' things like that, with tons and tons of repeats," said Andes, reached by phone.

Andes sent more than 140,000 messages, and Klinger sent more than 70,000 to end the month with a total of just over 217,000, he said.

A spokesman for Guinness World Records didn't immediately return messages asking whether it would be certified as a record.

April came as a relief to Andes' wife, Julie, who had found his phone tied up with texting when she tried to call him on lunch breaks.

"She was tired of it the first few days into it," Andes said.

India is preparing for Barack Obama's first visit to the country by removing coconuts from palm trees in Mumbai to protect the US president. Mr Obama will arrive in India on Saturday for the first leg of an Asian tour.

But as well as the usual security measures that come with welcoming a visiting dignitary, Indian authorities have decided to go one step further, by removing all natural threats to the president as well.

All coconuts around the city's Gandhi museum, one of Mr Obama's stops in the city, are being taken down.

2)The Most Important Thing in My Life

Some things around us may be small, but often it ‘s of great value in our life. So a common thing in our daily life can even own the power to change the orbit of our life.

This is the most important thing that I would keep in mind forever. In my opinion, I did well in math and so did my classmate Jim. We often communicate with each other. Once , our school would hold a mathematics competition and make it a rule that every class only had one representative. The chance was so precious that I didn’t want to miss it. But Jim was also a good competitor to me. So our math teacher give a test between us. The result was that Jim beat me by one point. How disappointed I was then! But , just after a minute, Jim turned back to my teacher and explained that our teacher had made a mistake so that it was I that should be the winner instead of him. Therefore , I finally was chosen to be the representative of our class.

Then I really didn’t know how to express my feeling, but I knew that I would never forget what this thing taught me. It might seem to be a small thing but I really learned a lot from that. It tells me that I should be honest at any time and it is the best policy in our life.

BOULDER, Colo. - Police say a Colorado man who told police he woke up to a "bang" and realized he suffered a gunshot wound to his knee likely shot himself while sleepwalking.

The Daily Camera reports that 63-year-old Sanford Rothman of Boulder told investigators he had no clear recollection of the incident early Tuesday. No one else was in Rothman's home at the time.

Boulder police Sgt. Paul Reichenback says Rothman keeps a 9 mm handgun near his bed and takes prescription medication for pain. Police say no alcohol or illegal drugs played a role in the incident.

Rothman was treated at a hospital and released.

Every year, college students are inspired to help students with their study in underdeveloped areas in china. They have been trying their best to impart knowledge and offering help to those students who are so eager to learn.

This volunteer practice has been beneficial in two aspects. On one hand, college volunteers are really devoted to the cause. They have opened the eyes of students in underdeveloped regions to the outside world by bringing them new knowledge and thoughts. As a result, they are extremely welcome and respected by the children there. On the other hand, college students have received a rigorous training by adapting to the harsh living conditions. They are learning how to deal with difficulties and face challenges as well. What’s more, by any means, this volunteer experience will be always a valuable asset in his or her life.

In my opinion, every Chinese citizen is responsible for the development of education in china. And we college students should take the lead in response to the appeal for offering aid to children in poor areas.
