Wales is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. The name "Wales" derives from a Germanic root. The Anglo-Saxons named it "Wales" as the people living there speak a different language from the Germanics and their life style differs from that of the Anglo-Saxons' too. Nowadays most of the Welsh population speak English, and Welsh language is also taught in many schools. Wales is officially bilingual and about 20% of the people there speak Welsh. The country's traditional heavy industres such as mining and metallurgical industries are now gone or in decline. Instead, Wales' economy depends more on newly developed industries at present days, including electronics industry and tourism. Wales is a largely mountainous country. Most of its land are used for sheep farming, whereas cattle are mainly kept in lowland areas.
