We Are What We Read
People usually say that you are what you eat, because eating habits can reflect one’s characters. In the same way, reading custom can reflect our spiritual world and interests, which explain what we are. I agree that reading is a critical part of learning and growth. Therefore, wise reading can help us to become what we want to be.
How does reading reflect one’s characters? First, from the content one reads we can find out his interests. Those who like literature may be romantic. Those who read news a lot may keep up with the time well. Those who fancy science reader may be with the spirit of scientific research. Second, from the reading habit one has we can see his attitude towards time. A man who makes use of odd moments to read probably be efficient or live a busy life. A man who spends long periods of time reading may easily concentrate his attention on things.
Reading can not only reflect things about people, but also help people to be what they want to be. As the most important way of getting information, reading has been playing a very important role in the progress of mankind. When we learn something new, we often Google it first for the basic information. Online reading is getting more and more popular for it is so convenient. When we turn to some professional fields, we usually read research papers to get improved. Reading is one of the most important way of expanding one’s horizons, through which people make progresses. There are a lot of bright sides to be said about reading.
However, if some people only read vulgar materials for fun, they may get lost. To an extent, one’s ways of reading determine the result of one’s study, which influences one’s future.
In a word, reading reflects the angles we look at the world, affects the ways we look at the world and changes our methods of changing the world, which determines who we are.
