“A friend in need is a friend in deed.” This is a well known English idiom, which shows that a true friend will always help you when you are in trouble.

I think Li Ming is my true friend. Last summer we went to the seaside to swim and met with a huge tidal wave. We were struggling to escape from it whilst I got a cramp. I had to call for help but my voices were drowned by the waves, and the lifeguards couldn’t hear me.

In this urgent moment I saw Li Ming turned and swam back to me. His arms paddled very hard against the waves. I knew that he was also facing a grave danger, but he disregarded it. Eventually he came to my back, held below my armpit, and pulled me to safety.
I feel that I owe a great deal of Li Ming, and regard him as my courageous true friend.
