good morning (afternoon, evening), (then state the person or a group of people who ever was listenig, eg.) teachers and fellow students.
tell about your name, occupation and why you are there for. for example, my name is jing and i study in the sydney university. i am here to participating in this model competition(i am just making it up). you can talk a little bit about your hobbies and what kind of person you are, like your characteristics, but this is not neccessary. then you can talk to the audience about your experience and why you think that you're eligible to win.
PS: i need to know what is the competition is about the decide what kind of essay to write, however, depending on the reader or listener, different language level is required, for instance, you might to use formal language than something informal
