目前学生在英语听力方面普遍存在问题:一些学生跟不上听力材料的播放速度,只能抓住有限的某些单词,在其反应这些单词时,其它内容则匆匆而过;还有的学生几乎能听懂每个单词,但就是无法快速理解全句的含义;另外一些学生在应对长篇文章时很苦恼,无从下手,边听边忘,记笔记的速度和质量均存在问题。如何提高学生的英语能力呢?应该意识到,听力提高并非只是“听力”的提高。它其实代表着英语综合能力的提高,即发音、词汇、词组、习语、文化思维等诸方面能力的提高。

二、具体方法
(1)、提高听力的反应速度:听力速度直接关系到听力效果,而且是影响人们交流和考试时心态的一个重要因素。“循序渐进法”,即由慢速到快速,逐步提高。平时学生应多多练习,从多听教学听力录音带入手,如所学的课本录音带,口语教材录音带,也可选听适合或略高于自己水平的有趣的材料。在英语听力课上,无论是精听或是泛听,最好开始都不要看文字材料。精听应先把录音内容从头至尾听一遍,再把听不懂的地方一遍又一遍地反复听。若有些地方实在听不懂,也应尽量听清各个音节,然后教师再给出答案或学生打开书,有些影响理解的生词可查一下词典。接着再合上书从头至尾听,直到能够听懂全部内容为止。

(2)、摆脱汉语的影响:许多学生在听到一段语言信息后,习惯用中文逐字逐句翻译,而不能直接将语言信息转化成一个情景或一幅画面,因而影响了反应速度、理解程度和记忆效果。在平时的联系中,应该注意这个问题,并逐步改正。
(3)、纠正学生错误的发音:在听力课上让学生模仿听力材料中的发音,边写单词边读,形成良好的学习习惯,并找出学生语音方面的不足并加以强化,持之以恒,就能改变以往的定式。此外,我们还应鼓励学生看英文原版影片,学唱英文歌曲。在上听力课的时候也可看情况穿插一些这样的内容,既丰富了教学又能让学生用听到的标准发音去纠正自己的语音错误。

(4)、重视阅读能力的提高:阅读对收听产生制约或促进作用,阅读能扩大词汇量,加深对词义的理解与记忆。阅读能开拓视野,获得多方面的知识,从而增加听力理解的有力因素。阅读可以训练思维能力,理解能力,概况能力与判断能力,从而提高听力理解的速度与准确性。

(5)、语法及文化背景知识方面:良好的语法知识会帮助学生在听材料时进行正确的上下文判断,从而促进听力效果。而多数同学缺乏文化背景知识,有时字字句句都能听懂,但是仍然搞不懂说话者意图。文化的涉及面很广,渗透到生活的方方面面。教师应首先自己了解英美文化,在开始听音之前进行一些相关背景知识的介绍,才能更好地帮助学生理解听力材料。
