Since 1990s, through the college education in English major, literature in English has the tendency that has been neglected in great degree. This issue has caused the attention of the Foreign Languages Department. Literature in English is a very important course for the students of English major. It is a compulsory course for the senior students of English major. Through the investigation, it is found that the attention of learning literature in English at school of foreign languages should be improved. Many students learn literature in English only for credits. This paper mainly analyzes the results of the investigation. It puts forward some suggestions to improve the attention of learning literature in English and strengthen the students’ major responsibility of learning literature in English. Then it will help students to learn literature in English well.

Since 1990s, English literature courses had been inclined to be put into a less important position in professional education in colleges. This problem has caught the attention of the language world. The study also shows that English literature is not emphasized enough in our college and a lot of students learn English literature only for credits. This paper analyzes the survey and then gives suggestions on how to encourage our college putting more attention and our students taking more responsibility on literature studying so as to improve the English literature studying.
