这里生长着两种普通的海藻，一种是绿藻，也叫浒苔，有时候被人们叫做绿线藻，另一种是红藻（不是台藓）叫做爱尔兰苔（角叉菜藻）。当两种水藻一起生长在满潮塘里时，浒苔的生长速度比爱尔兰苔要快。令人惊讶的是，在很多满潮塘里，爱尔兰苔是最常见的。原来是在生物食藻时，食藻动物把浒苔吃掉了。这里常见的食藻类动物是普通的玉黍螺，和活动在高潮线地带的玉黍螺非常类似。
