Having selected the organism , growth must take place under conditions that will maximize enzyme production .Extracellular enzymes have specific advntages over intracellular enzymes since their production does not require costly cell disruption techniques ; furthermore , extracellular enzymes are present in a relatively pure form in the culture liquid whereas intracellular enzymes need more complicated methods of separation and purification . Extracellular enzymes make up the bulk of industrial microbial enzyme production but intracellular enzymes are finding an increasingly important role as diagnostic enzymes in medicine and industry.
