The World Expo that took place in ShangHai, China this year was a success story to be told, and retold. China, a country on the fast track of economical success, has successfully held the ShangHai Expo and earned praises from many, but we have to ask ourselves, is the Expo really worth it? The answer is clear and definite: Yes. Some dissidents argue that the money costed in the Expo could have been invested in infrastructure and helping to end famine in various parts of the country. I respectfully disagree, those short-sighted people who contend this intenable point failed to recognize that the economical benefits that the Expo brought would have a far more significant contribution to China's effort to better the quality of lives of the people. Before the beginning of the 20th century, Olympic Games were a burden to the host country. Every country had to spend vast amount of resources to host the Games, this changed at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympic where commercials were introduced to Olympics, and actually made a profit for the host country. This trend has continued up to this day, where many countries clamour to host the World Cup, Olympic Games, and other events, such as the Expo. The Expo for one is a tourist attraction, it brings millions of visitors from every corners of the world, and for the little investment that we put in to set up the Expo, we receive multiple times of the money back through tourist spending. Then the governemnt can use this money and invest it in improving poorer people's quality of lives.
