As we wrap up classes for 2010, I wanted to send you best wishes from Trinity College School and to let you know of the School’s plans to recognize the holiday season in an environmentally sensitive, economically prudent and thoughtful manner.
Again, this year, in lieu of holiday cards, the School will be making donations to two not-for-profit organizations. We will be supporting Northumberland Fare Share, our local food bank, and have also chosen to support an international endeavour in the form of our Me to We Ecuador trip. This initiative – which is in partnership with the Free the Children organization – had 15 TCS students and two faculty members working on a school build and water project this December, helping to improve accessibility and sanitation for the community of San Miguel. This is the second year we have supported this amazing service initiative and we hope to continue this commitment each year.
We had a wonderfully busy close to the fall term at TCS. For three days last week, all Senior School students, faculty and staff were off campus volunteering their time and energy at 50 local community support agencies, charities and not-for-profit businesses for our second annual Week Without Walls initiative. With privilege and opportunity, comes responsibility. As a school committed to developing habits of the heart and mind for a life of purpose and service, we are very focussed on teaching the value and importance of a purposeful existence and fostering a spirit of compassion and generosity in our students. This holiday season is no exception.
