In "Letters to Juliet" Sophie Hall (Amanda Seyfried) is a fact checker who dreams of becoming a writer. Her fiancé, Victor (Gael Garcia Bernel), a new restaurant owner, and her travel abroad to Verona, Italy for pleasure mixed with business. When Victor gets carried away with the business end of the trip, Sophie finds herself entangled in an adventure of her own. Sophie begins with sightseeing and finds herself in the courtyard where Romeo and Juliet first met. She watches intensely as the courtyard wall fills with letters to Juliet. Curiously she follows a lady who has removed all the letters and placed them in a basket. She discovers that a group of ladies that call themselves "Juliet's secretaries" write back to every letter left on the wall. Joining the ladies Sophie discovers a letter left behind a stone in 1957 written by Claire (Vanessa Redgrave) stating how she was too afraid at 15 to go with her true love and left him waiting for her. Sophie decides this is a letter that she must respond to no matter how much time has passed. The theme shines through as you discover through watching this film that 'true love can conquer all'. Nothing can stop true love from happening: time, distance, or even people.
Charlie (Chris Egan), Claire's grandson, arrives a few days later to announce that his grandmother, Claire has come to find her long lost love, Lorenzo (Franco Nero), because of Sophie's letter. Fascinated by Claire's quest to find her Lorenzo and her desire to write about it, Sophie joins Charlie and Claire on their search. Sophie's response to the letter starts off a chain reaction of events that will bring love to both Sophie and Claire's lives beyond anything either of them ever imagined. The theme of 'love conquers all' parallels with the theme of "The Lake House" where they fight time and fall in love through letters and in the end find each other.
In "Letters to Juliet" the camera angles capture every emotion expressed by the characters as they find the power of true love. From close ups to the subjective point of views you see and sense the emotions through the camera lens. The musical scores in this film enhance the movie viewing experience by adding charm and romance. The theme song "Love Story" by Taylor Swift is just one example of how the films soundtrack brings you in, emotionally, as you not just watch the movie but experience this film. "Letters to Juliet" will convince you that love can conquer all.
