render distance isn't set to far.

boy! It looks like the air quality is even bad indoors

I am constantly amazed at the grandeur of Chinese buildings. HSR stations as well as convention centres and concert halls in major Chinese cities are absolutely amazing.

Agreed. That's why I think Chinese infrastructures fits so well here. You can't really find anything like it.
I feel a lot of posts in this subreddit are of borderline infrastructure that's just feels nice to the eye. Seldom you see hardcore infrastructure like in this pic.

Jesus... what is the point of that building being so huge and emtpy? Seems like more of an inconvenience than anything.... unless it regularly fills up.

It's a connection point for many HSR lines. The floor space is needed. This picture is taken the 19th December and the station opens 21st.

Ok, thanks for the response. Second question I guess is why does it need to be so tall? I'm guessing aesthetics, but that really seems like a huge waste of money, especially if they need to heat or cool it.
[–]norhor
I don't know, but I would guess it is for better ventilation as well as aesthetics?
Almost all of the main HSR stations in China have these enormous buildings/halls. There are some very high capacity on these lines. I think that the Shanghai - Beijing line has a capacity of 200.000 passenger in each direction.

For something that's going to hold so many people, I think high ceilings would be better to help with the claustrophobia.

Yeah the alternative is a circa-1972 SOM airport concourse where the ceilings are 8'6" and absolutely everything is that blackish-brown color.

I also raise my eyebrow on the size, but high spaces are always good. Feels more open, airy. Philadelphia 30th Street is a great surviving example stateside.

If you have ever seen a Chinese railway station during Chinese New Years you will understand.
That being said, going into these new train stations in China is a really strange experience. They are modern, but they have no soul, also when it isn't a busy time of the year you just go through these massive expanses with nothing.

Last time I saw something so huge was the Dubai airport baggage terminal

Where is this? This looks quite a bit different than the main station downtown...
