There were plenty of descriptions and literature on Taiwanese aborigines by Japanese humanists in the time of Japanese occupation. By reviewing how the aborigines’ images were presented in fictions and documentary writings during the Japanese occupation time, the essay tries to explore the “South” description in parallel with the description of the aboriginal images under the colonial background. Through analyzing the colony and the aboriginal images in literature in relation with the southward policy and the aboriginal policy, the author tries to conclude how the south image and the consciousness penetrated, and literarily developed a mixture of culture and imperialism, politics and ideology. Not only Japanese writers put the imperialism thought of thread into their “culture translation”, but also, in the plan of social transformation, the historic context of colonial civilization in writings reflected the same or different cultural and political identifications between the colonist and the colonized.
