In the 1990s Mr.Mine Yoshihiko,a researcher became interested in the history of the dogwoods and decided to carry out a search for the original trees.As a result,he found two in Tokyo Metropolitan Agricultural Horticultura High School ,one in the Koishikawa Botanical Gardens,and another in the National institute of Fruit Tree Science at the Ministry of Agriculture,Forestry and Fisheries,which is located in Shizuoka Prefecture.They have grown to measure more than one meter around and about 10 meters high . It seems that the original dogwood trees,which crossed the Pacific Ocean about 100 years ago,have firmly taken root in foreign soil.In parks and gardens and along streets all over Japan hanamizuki continue to soothe the hearts of the Japanese people with their elegant beauty.
