on the earth 表示在地球表面，相对少见
on earth 多用作加强语气的词组：究竟。e.g. What on earth was she doing in that room for an entire hour? 她呆在那房子里足足一小时，究竟她在搞什麽鬼？
on earth 也可指：世界上或人世间。This is the tallest building on earth.
