FIVE BEANS
Story teller: Hi, friends! Do you believe in miracles? I’d like to tell you a story about Jack and Lily’s miraculous life. It was Christmas Eve.
Mum: (Shouted) Get up, Jack. Get up. You lazy bone!
Jack : OK, Mum. What’s for breakfast?
Mum: Breakfast? Get up and drink some water! Water and no more!
Jack: (Sadly) Mum, I didn”t have my supper last night.
Lily: Mum, I’m hungry.
Mum: Poor Children! We have no money and no food. Don’t you know?
Jack: What do we have, Mum?
Mum: Now we have only one cow, a weak and thin cow.
Jack: Why not sell it and buy some food for us. And we can buy some chicks. We feed the chicks and the chicks will become hens.
Lily: Then we can have eggs and chickens. If we sell the eggs in the market , we will have money.
Jack: Don’t worry, Mum. Everything will become better. Don’t lose hope.
Mum: OK, Jack.. You go to the market and sell the cow. Try to get a good price .
(Jack and Lily led the cow to the market.)
Jack & Lily: For sale, for sale. Good cow for sale. Come and have a look.
Lady: Hi, boy. How much is your cow?
Jack: 100 dollars.
Lady: Oh, that’s too much.. Your cow is weak and thin.
Man: Hey, children. How much is your cow?
Lily: It’s 80 dollars.
Man: Oh, it’s expensive. Your cow is weak and thin.
(They kept going.)
Jack: For sale, for sale. Good cow for sale. Come and have a look. Oh, no one will buy our cow.
Lily: Brother, I’m tired. There’s an old man over there . Let’s take a rest there. OK?
Jack: OK.
Jack: Good afternoon, Grandpa.
Old man: Good afternoon.
Jack: What are you doing here?
Old man: I’m selling Lucky Beans.
Jack: Lucky Beans? What luck can they bring?
Old man: My Lucky Beans will make people rich. I sell them here for all day, but those silly people won’t believe me.
Jack: Really? May I have a look?
Old man: Sure. Here you are.
Jack & Lily: They don’t look special.
Old man: Believe me. These beans will make you rich. You plant them in your garden and you will see miracles.
Jack: That’s fantastic. I’d like to buy the beans. But I have no money. The only thing I have is this cow.
Old man: You give me your cow and I give you my beans.
Jack: Done.
(They went back home happily.)
Jack: Mum, I’m home. I sold the cow. Look, I’ve got five magic beans.
Mum: Five beans?
Lily: Yes, five magic beans.
Mum: Oh dear! That’s no good. How can you do that? Now we have no money and no cow. You silly boy! ( She threw the beans out of the window and began to cry.)
Jack & Lily : Our beans.( They ran out of the house. )
Story teller: Shoots come out from the beans. The beans grew taller and taller. The next day, Jack saw a big beanstalk in the garden. He climbed up the beanstalk and found 5 gold coins.
