Introduction
With the characteristics of w ireless sensing,completely passive operatio n and harsh- env ironmental r unning , tags based on surface acoustic wave ( SAW) techniques ar e adapted in radio frequency ident if icatio n ( RFID) system. At present ,the ident i f icat ion systems of this type have been installed in Munich's subw ay system and toll station on expressw ay s near the city of Oslo. SAW tags are of ten desig ned as ref lect ive delay lines. Decoding is achieved acco rding to the echo signal which returns w ith dif ferent t ime delay s. How ever , some tag s often occupy the f ield of a transceiver at the same t ime, and pro duce simultaneous echo signals w hich “ co llide”w hen they ar riv e back at the tr ansceiv er . Superpo sit ion of numerous time delays w ill make the identif icat io n of tag s almostimpossible, ther efore, it is v ery signif icant to implement ant i- co llision in SAW RFID system.
Correlaive signal processing and orthogonal frequency coding are presented as a solution to distinguish mult iple SAW senso rs and evaluate their informatio n, but they don't suit to be used to process mul tiple SAW tag s. Some anti- collision methods aiming at mult iple SAW tags are briefly introduced, such as sig nal st reng th discrimination, t ime division or t ime separat ion, spat ial discrimination based o n select ive antenna patterns,code division separat ion and signal subtraction.Until now , not much ex perimental study has been reported on the anti- collision metho ds for multiple SAW tags.The appl ication o f smart antenna, has often been sug gested for radar, aerospace technology and mobile communicat ions systems. When used appropriately, smar t antenna helps in improving the system performance, ex tending rang e coverage, steering mult iple beams to t rack many objectives. The smart antenna system consist s o f multiple stat io nary antenna element s, combined with signal processing sect io n and uses a computational and pr ogrammable enviro nment to pr ocess the signal in the baseband. Smart antenna o ften forms a certain shape beam to receive a radiat ing signal from a specif ic locat ion and suppress all interfering signals in applicat ion, therefore it is presented to implement ant i- collisio n in SAW RFID sy stem.In this paper, the lo cat ions of tag s are denoted by the direct io n of arrivals ( DOAs ) . The basic idea is to est imate the DOAs, form the array weights, and reco ver the sig nal o f each tag to complete the ef fort of decoding. In recent years, genetic algorithm ( GA ) has been used in spatial spectrum estimation and direct io n finding applications, and has been proven to be robust and eff icient optimized and multidimensional oriented.This paper has taken the application of GA into consideration to find the opt imized par ameter estimates o f the DOAs.
Signal Model
A unique number o f each tag is the basis for solving the anticollisio n problem in any RFID technology.In this paper , the pulse positioncoding scheme is adopted, typical conf iguration is shown in Fig . 1. Where IDT is interdig ital transducer.
