Instructions on Assessment:
The Global Green Consumer
Your boss has been invited to make a presentation to a group of international consumer marketers, at an International Conference, on the phenomenon of the ‘Global Green Consumer – a cross-border market’. There is to be a full programme of speakers including environmentalists, Fairtrade advocates, Global businesspeople and others who will be making presentations about the more scientific issues of global warming and environmental concerns. He has asked you to carry out some research for him and present him with a report on his topic area, from which he will put together his presentation. This should be clear and concise and identify the main points that he should make.
You will need to help your boss address such issues as:
1. The Global Green Consumer:
· What is cross-border market segmentation?
· Using appropriate segmentation variables, in what ways can the ‘global green consumer’ be defined?
· What has led to their emergence in the global market-place?
· What opportunities do this group present to the international marketer in terms of products and marketing strategies, now and in the future?
· Discuss the limitations of trying to research the customer and market products and services to such a large international cross-cultural segment?
2. Example:
· You are also to identify a consumer product company which is trying to satisfy some of the various needs of the “global green consumer” (i.e. a company who markets their consumer products to more than one country) that could be used as an example in your boss’s presentation. These consumer needs could be environmental, ethical or both.
· Choose a suitable company and analyse, using marketing terminology, how they do this.
Marks are allocated as follows:
1: 70%
2: 20%
The final 10% is allocated for presentation, depth of research and correct referencing style
Notes:
Maximum word count (absolutely no more than) 2500 words (this does not include numbers, tables or any appendix material). You must state the word count and identify on your report when the content of your work has reached 2500 words. Work will not be read or marked beyond the 2500 words.
You must consider your boss’s audience who are not scientists or environmentalists but international marketing business people. They will understand marketing terminology and theory and want to apply this theory to satisfy their customers’ needs and wants.
