My grandfather came from Hungary and was the only one in his family who settled down in the United States. The rest of his family remained in Europe .When World War I broke out ,he seeme to have become another man ,downhearted. Such obvious change was not born out o fconcern for his walfare ,but out of FEAR:if his onlt son ,my uncle ,had to go ro war ,it would be cousin fighting against cousin.

我的祖父来自匈牙利，他是他们家里唯一一位定居于美国的人。其他的家庭成员留在了欧洲。当第一次世界大战爆发时，他似乎变成了另外一个人，灰心丧气的。这样明显的改变并非来源于他战争状态的担忧（此处应该是warfare吧?)，而是出于害怕：如果他的（onlt 没查到，楼主是否打错了？可能是only)唯一的儿子，我的叔叔，不得不参加战争，那将成为亲人与亲人互相残杀的局面。
