Construction of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway began in January 2008. Work on the line is expected to be completed by 2013. The Ministry of Railways is contributing 78.9% of the estimated cost of ¥160bn and the rest is expected to come from other investors.

In March 2009, China's Ministry of Railways (MOR) entered into an agreement with state-owned vehicle producer CNR Corporation for the purchase of 100 high-speed China Railway High-speed (CRH) trains for ¥39.2bn. The new CRH trains are expected to travel between Beijing and Shanghai in 2011. 展开
