The land features Kun,noble people hold things with great virtue
As the ancient book about divinatory symbols goes,
Kun means docile.
Kun is the land,so Kun represents the land,
it has the merit of docile to hold the sky
and vastitude to carry creatures,
that is to say, Kun or land possess the merit of tenderness and generosity.
Qian leads the sky with its strength,while Kun holds the sky with its tenderness.
It is associated with the Qian sun,breeds the creatures and things,
and its virtue is bright and vast without any boundary,
profound and high as well as distant,
therefore all things enjoy peace.
The features of the land is vast and docile,
so noble people should learn from it,enhancing own merits ,
to live in harmony with all the things.
The ancient Chinese society is an agricultural one,
people worship not only the sky but also the land,
the merit that the Kun symbol indicates,roughly includes three aspects:
Firstly,hold the sky to breed things;
Secondly,be magnanimous to carry things;
Lastly, raise and brighten things.
From the perspective of philosophy of life,
the great virtue that land possesses
which breeds,carries and brightens all the things,
can enhance one's moral integrity in three aspects at least :
Firstly,be magnanimous to carry things;
Secondly,be tolerant to hold the things;
Lastly, be gentle to deal with the strength.
To make it more detailed,it means all of us should improve merits,
be more magnanimous and gentle.
