Usually, the catalytic properties of precious metal supported catalyst have been found to be dependant on the platinum and palladium dispersion state or related to the metal-support interaction. Based on this SEM results, we think that a synergistic interaction between the stainless steel support and precious metal was appeared due to anodizing oxidation film; it is responsible for favoring the active phases of platinum and palladium easily dispersed on the surface of the stainless steel support. This is in agreement with the findings of Giraudon et al., that synergistic interaction enhances the catalytic activity of precious metals catalysts. With the analysis above, it indicated that the anodizing oxidation film in this study is suitable for supporting precious metal on the stainless steel support.
