For reasons similar to those discussed in connection with change in composition ,the elastic behaver of the material is only very slightly affected by the previous history of the material .Since elasticity is directly related to the binding between atoms ,any processing which results in a material with the same crystal structure will give a material with the same elastic behavior . For example ,a metal may be subjected to a number of different heat treatments which
can have a profound effect on other properties. As a rule ,heat treatments affect the distribution of phases in a material ,but they do not alter the identity of these phases . Since the phases retain their identity ,the atomic binding forces remain essentially the same ,and the elastic behavior of the material undergoes no change.
