As the old saying in Chinese goes "it is the father's fault if the child is not well educated". I think this tells us that parents play an important role in educating their children. Firstly, parents are children's first teachers. When a child is born, his or her parents begin to influence him or her in every aspects in daily life. Secondly, when the child grows up and goes to school, parents should also guide him or her because teachers or friends cannot solve all the problems. So I think if the parents do not make efforts to educate their children, they are making a big mistake.
