We use the term first-mover to refer to the first firm to enter a market supported by sizeable investments in the production and distribution of the product, and the elapsed time between its entry and that of later entrants is of sufficient magnitude so as to allow the first-mover to achieve advantageous resource positions. We use the term early movers or early entrants to refer to multiple firms entering a market in short succession with sizeable investments in the production and distribution of a product and being able to achieve advantageous resource positions. For ease of exposition, we use the term first-mover in the remainder of the paper.
