first you can tell David it is bad for him bravely.Next you can help him study his English,For example,you can remember words with him together .Finally you shoud urge him to study his English.

I just have received your letter, and i have worked out two tangible solutions for you as following
First of all, i think you should talke to David with your concerns, and try to persuade him to try his best rather than to copy answers from others.
My second suggestion is that you could change his parents mind which thinks score is everything. I think parents should emphasize more on children health and fitness, so both parents and children will have a colourful future.
