People began to make robots about several hundred years ago. In the past, some of the early ones looked like animals or humans. However, they couldn't talk and were pretty dumb. They worked like clocks and did the same things over and over.

Now modern robots don't always look like people. Some are like big machines; others are nothing but long arms attached to boxy (箱子般四方) bodies. However, modern robots are smart. Some can solve problems on their own. Their brains are computers and their eyes are sensors (传感器). Motors (发动机) help them move.

In the future, robots will learn from their mistakes more than they do now. They will be smarter. It's possible that we will have robot judges, robot house-hold workers, and robot factory workers. Robots will help people to do more things.

The population (人口) is growing fast. There will be many people in the world and most of them will live longer than people live now.

People will work fewer hours than they do now and they will have more free time for sports, watching TV and travel. Traveling will be much cheaper and easier. Everyone knows there's not enough land in Hong Kong. If you go there by air, you will arrive at Kai Tak Airport. This was built out into the sea. It is in the part of Hong Kong called Kowloon. Kowloon is one of the two big cities in Hong Kong.

The other city is Hong Kong itself. It is on island. You can get there by ship or through a tunnel(通道) under the sea. Much of Hong Kong is farmland and mountains.

The population of Hong Kong is more than six million. Chinese and English are spoken by many people there. Clothes, computers, radios, televisions are made in Hong Kong. You can buy all kinds of things, like watches and computers.

Hong Kong is also a beautiful city. It is a good place for traveling. You can see people from all over the world every year. You can watch dog-racing(比赛) and motor-racing. When you are hot and tired, you may rest in the small cool gardens. There are also a lot of high buildings to live in. If you enjoy many kinds of cooking, you can find a good place for Chinese food, for example, fish, meat, and vegetables.
