这是对not...until的句型的until引导的从句或者短语进行强调，其结构是：
It is/was not until+短语/从句+ that+句子其他成分。所以只要看到It is/was not until 后面就要选that 而且注意that后的句子要用肯定.因为not已经提前了。
这个句子还原后是：
She didn't remember her appointment with the doctor until she had arrived home.
又如：I didn't see him until 1999.
把这个句子改为强调句：
It was not until 1999 that I saw him.

比较：It was evening when I arrived home yesterday.
在这个句子中就要用when引导定语从句。

定语从句和强调句型的区别：
强调句型的一个判断标准是：
强调句型中的it是个引导词，本身没有意义。如果去掉it is/was…that，句子结构仍然完整，句意也完整。
定语从句中的it是指示代词，做主句的主语。如果去掉it is/was…that，句子结构不完整，意思也不完整。
It was evening when I arrived at home yesterday.
此句就不是强调句型，when不能换为that，因为在去掉it was...when后缺少介词in 和the而不能组成完整的句子。
比较：It was in the evening that I arrived at home.
看下面这个题：
It was in 1969 ____ the America Astronauts succeeded in landing on the moon.

A 本句是强调句型。
判断方法：如果去掉 it is/was .....that.....句子依然成立的话就是强调句，否则就是别的句式。
本句去掉强调结构后句子是：she didn't remember her appointment with the doctor until she had arrived home. 直到她已经到家她才想起她和医生的约定。

方法：你首先要理解not.....until....这个句子结构。此句型中否定词not 是主句中的，until 引导的是时间状语。
把它改为强调句型时，not 和until 放到一起，形成not until,并且原来until 后的结构不变，（即until 先前后面跟什么，写成强调句后还不变），把它放到it is/was和that之间。而主句中not 已经被提出来了，主句照抄时把not 拿掉。
例如：i didn't recognize him until he greeted me.
可以改为：it was not until he greeted me that i recognized him.

强调句型和 it is/was +时间+when从句没啥关系啊。强调句型去掉it was....that/who...之后，句子仍然成立。这是认定强调结构的标准。如：
It was at 8 pm. that he returned.去掉以后是：At 8 pm，he returned 句子是成立的，不过把时间状语放在句首罢了。
it was 8 pm when he returned.这句子去掉后，8 pm 不能单独作时间状语，要加at 才行，所以这不是强调结构，
