汉斯·安徒生生于一个鞋匠的家庭。他很小的时候想成为一个作家，他想写剧本、演戏。好多人说这孩子不明智，但他深信他的梦想一定会实现。他14时就到哥本哈根去闯天下。在那里他去找了戏剧界人士，但没人向他伸出援助之手。很快他就没有多少钱了。有几个人给他点钱买点吃的，买点衣服，但这孩子把大部分钱用来买书，去看戏。

He wanted to be a writer when he was very young,and he also wanted to write play-scripts and act .Many people said that the child did not wise, but he was convinced that his dream was bound to come true.At the age of 14,he went to Copenhagen,where he paid a visit to people in the theater, to make a life ,but no one gave him a hand.He soon had little money left. Several people gave him some money to buy something to eat and some clothes. However the child spared most of the money buying books and going to the theater.
