Production Parts and Production Samples: Production Parts are manufactured at the production site using
production tooling, gauging, processes, materials, operators, environment, and process settings, e.g.
production feeds/speeds/cycle times/pressures/temperatures. Production Samples are production parts taken
from a significant production run. Refer to the "Production Part Approval Process" manual.
PPAP: Production Part Approval Process is a process for North American Original Equipment
Manufacturers (adopted by DCC, Ford, and General Motors) to simplify and standardize Chrysler Group
approval of initial samples. At DaimlerChrysler the PPAP process replaces ISIR/ISLR sample submission
requirements. Parts must be dimensionally, functionally, and materially correct, produced on production
tools, and manufactured to the final manufacturing process. For additional information, refer to the AIAG
Production Part Approval Process manual.
Production Validation (PV). Tests validating the production tooling, methods, and processes used to
manufacture a component. Tests must be performed by the supplier on parts representative of production
design configuration and made from production tooling. Parts shall be randomly selected from the full
production demonstration run of Process Sign-off. Parts shall be run at full line speed.
PPSR: Pre-production Sample Report. For additional information refer to P&S procedure PPSP0107
Quality: The totality of features and characteristics of a product that influence its ability to satisfy a user’s
needs.
Reliability: Probability that a component, assembly or system will:
-Operate as intended
-Under specified environmental and duty cycle conditions
-For a specified life, as measured in time, cycles, miles or other indicator of usage
S0 Build: Design Verification, first build item that is production released: parts may be soft or hard tooled,
production intent, production intent process in a pilot assembly facility.
S1 Build: Production Validation/ Pre-launch build
S2 Build: Production build
Supply Partner Information Network (SPIN): Computer network used to transmit part information between
the supplier and DaimlerChrysler systems through Extended Enterprise using a 3270 mainframe
connection.
