2 and 前后是两个句子，and 后面的可以单独看作一个句子。I can see a little of myself 是主句，looking at them 可以表示一个状语，相当于 when l look at them。
3. as 相当于when ，当他感觉到有人闯进他的小屋时，他的心脏几乎停止了跳动。
