In China,English is considered to be one of the most important languages and we students all learn it in school.Why is English so important and why do we learn it?In my opinion,the reasons are as follow.First,English is regarded as the world language.Second,English is the most important tool for communication in the world.Third,it is simple and interesting and is easy to learn.If we don't learn English,we will not be able to communicate with the people from other countires.
For these reasons,we should learn English.

2. The Differences between Amercian English and British English
Although Amercian English and British English are alike,they are different in some ways.First,there are some differences in the spelling of the words.For example,"colour" is a British word,but in American English, it is spelled "color".The same difference exists in many other words,such as favourite and favorite.Second,the pronounciation is different between American English and British English.Take the word "pass" for example,it is pronounced /pes/ in American English while it is pronounced /pa:s/ in British English.Besides,when people say football in America,it means soccer in Britain.So it is with some other words such as rubber and eraser.

In the 21th Century, if someone ask you why do you need to study English? People around you will probably be laughing at your naiveness. English is the global business language that elite organisation such as Transnational corporations and prominent people like Politicians use to communicate with each other. It is the medium that breaks the barrier between different countries, cultures and race. As a modern citizen of the world, we will be isolated and detached from the rest of the majority if we do not understand English. For this reason, many well-known corporations are likely to hire employees that are bilingual in both Chinese and English. Hence, you should study English for the sake of finding a good job, so in the future, you could have a better quality of life.

The written form of English between United Kingdom(U.K) and United State of America (U.S.A) vary little in essential features, with only occasional noticeable differences in comparable media. An example could be the spelling of colour (UK) and color (USA). However, the major difference arises from the spoken form. The spoken forms of British English vary considerably, reflecting a long history of dialect development amid isolated populations. The dialects and accents even vary significantly within different regions of U.K.

On the other hand, the American spoken English has developed as a result of mass media, geographic and social mobility, reflecting the elements of the language of the main immigrant groups in any particular region of the country, especially in terms of pronunciation and vernacular vocabulary. But the issue of diverse accents from migrants become solved after the American Civil War, with the settlement of the western territories by migrants from the east led to dialect mixing and levelling, so that regional dialects are most strongly differentiated in the eastern parts of the country that were settled earlier. But as time passed by, the Americans have developed their 'unique' pronounciation of their American style English, which people can easily distinguish it from British English. A clear example to illustrate this is American English emphasises words with the 'r' sound.
