Qiandao Lake, the Xin'anjiang Reservoir, is located in Chun'an County, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. A small part of it connects the northwest of Jiande City, Hangzhou City. It is an artificial lake built for the purpose of storing the upper reaches of Xin'anjiang River for the construction of Xin'anjiang Hydropower Station.
It was built in 1955 and completed in 1960. The dam of the reservoir is 105 meters high and 462 meters long, and the length of the reservoir is about 150 kilometers, and the width of the reservoir is more than 10 kilometers.
The deepest reaches more than 100 meters, with an average water depth of 30.44 meters. Under normal water level, the area is about 580 square kilometers, and the water storage capacity can reach 17.8 billion cubic meters.
At the highest water level, there are 1078 land bridge islands larger than 0.25 square kilometers, mainly islands under 2 square kilometers, with a total area of 409 square kilometers.

千岛湖由中富营养化向中营养化转化的趋势，污染元素的依次为重金属、氮、磷和有机物质、网箱和游船；水温分层，年平均气温19.6℃，6-9月表层（水面至水下10米）温度变化大，平均28.2℃-24.4℃，且多维持较高水温，称温水层，受洪水影响较大，中层（10-30米）为恒温层。
水温常年保持10℃左右，在30米上下有一水温突变点，此层亦可称温跃层；湖中鱼类达13科83种，鳙、鲢、草鱼齐全，还有鲌鱼、鳜鱼、鳗鱼等名贵鱼种，年产在3000吨以上，人工养殖业发达，商品鱼养殖场666平方米，以鲤鱼、鳊鱼、罗非鱼为主，年产量近90万吨。
