Culture shock is an occupational disease for people who have been sudenly transplanted abroad.Like most ailments,it has its own symptoms and a cure.
Culture shock is precipitated by the anxiety that results from losing all familiar signs and symbols of social intercourse. Those signs include the thousand and one ways in which we orient ourselves to the situation of daily life:when to shanke hands and what to say when we meet people, when and how to give tips, how to make purchases, when to accept and refuse invitations, when to take statements seriously and when not. These signs, which may be words, estures, facial expressions,or customs, are acquired by all of us in the course of growing up and as much a part of our culture as the language we speak or the beliefs we accept. All of us depend on hundreds of these signs for our peace of mind and day-to-day efficiency, but we do not carry most at the level of conscious awareness.
Now when an individual enters a strange culture, all or most of these familiar signs are removed. No matter how broadminded or full of good will you may be, a series of supports have been knocked from under you, followed by a feeling of frustration when suffering from culture shock people first reject the environment which causes discomfort. The ways of the host country are bad because they make us feel bad.lWhen foregners in a strange land get together to complain about the host country and its people, you can be sure tha tthaey are suffering from culture shock.
Another phase of culture shock is regression. The home environment suddenly assumes a tremendous importance. To the forigner, everything becomes irrationally glorified .All the difficulties and problems are forgotten and only the good things back home are remembered. It usually thkes a trip home to bring one back to reality.

Culture shock refers to the anxiety and feelings (of surprise, disorientation, uncertainty, confusion, etc.) felt when people have to operate within a different and unknown cultural or social environment after leaving everything familiar behind and they have to find their way in a new culture that has a different way of life and a different mindset [1] such as in a foreign country. It grows out of the difficulties in assimilating the new culture, causing difficulty in knowing what is appropriate and what is not. This is often combined with a dislike for or even disgust (moral or aesthetical) with certain aspects of the new or different culture.
Culture shock is a state of dis-ease, just like a disease. It has many different effects, time spans, and degrees of severity[9]. Many people are handicapped by its presence and don't recognize what is bothering them. Culture shock symptoms are really hard to seclude.
Culture shock is a subcategory of a more universal construct called transition shock. Transition shock is a state of loss and disorientation predicated by a change in one's familiar environment which requires adjustment.
