(33)A Coal Properties and Use Assessment for the Mokau Coalfield was conducted by Mining Consultants of NZ (MCNZ) for the Mines Division of NZ Ministry of Energy as part of the NZCRS。The assessment was conducted for the purpose of :1,ensuring that adequate analytical information was available on the properties of the coal；2，describing the properties of the coal based on available data；3，predicting the quality of the saleable coal;4,defining utilisation options for the coal ;5,comparing the Mokau coal to the coals from the Waikato。A review of the analytical data gathered during recent exploration programmes in the Mokau Coalfield showed that adequate information was available to characterise the in seam properties of the coal with a reasonable degree of accuracy and confidence。To aid in projecting the quality characteristics of the projected run of mine coal ，analyses were made during the present study for the dilutant material(roof,band，and floor strata) which will most likely be introduced into the coal in the course of the mining process.
（34）This final geological report presents the results of an exploration programme carried out in the Mokau Coalfield by D J Phelps & Co Itd for Mines Division during the period November 1981 to May 1984。Initially the aim of this programme was to establish the presence of a potentially economic coal reserve and to determine what additional investigations were necessary。This initial work was described in an Interim Report of Exploration produced in August 1982.As a consequences of this it was deemed necessary to continue the programme so that the large areas of potentially underground mineable coal ,（principally in the north of the field）,could be adequately proven。This report updated and supersedes the previous report。
