教师的师德是教师最基本的也是最重要的素质,要想成功地对学生进行素质教育,教师首先要加强自身的道德修养,成为学生的楷模。因为师德在整个教师素质中处于主导地位,是灵魂。教师的人品对学生具有潜移默化的作用,因此,教师要注重自身的道德修养,作风正派,情趣高雅,胸襟宽广,这样,学生就会由尊敬、爱戴教师而发自内心地主动接受教育,进而内化为自身的知识能力和觉悟,这正是素质教育所要求的。
二、 具备丰富的文化知识
扎实系统的专业学科知识是构成教师向学生“授业” 的基本内容。英语是小学英语教师的专业,对于从事小学英语教学的教师来说,掌握系统的英语专业知识是适应英语教学的前提。尽管小学英语教学的内容是一些基础知识和基本技能,但教师如果没有扎实、系统的英语专业知识是很难胜任小学英语教学工作。英语专业知识一般指英语语言、文化方面的内容,还包括准确而流利的英语语音语调,一定的贴近儿童生活的词汇量,牢固的语法及文体方面的知识以及本国与英语国家的历史地理、风俗习惯、文化传统、社会制度、政治结构、价值观念等领域的文化知识。掌握这些专业知识是小学英语教师首先要具备的专业素养。
三、具备良好的教学能力
教学能力是评价教师的核心技能。它是指教师如何教的技能,具体地说就是指教师对教学设计、课堂活动操作、课堂教学组织和在课内外充分展示英语在交流中的工具性的能力。儿童英语教学在很大程度上受到班级特点、学生年龄与语言水平的制约,教师不仅要始终明白一节课的要求,并要根据教学内容设计出与之相适应的教学活动,帮助自己有效地组织课堂活动以达到更好的课堂教学效果。当然,由于英语是中国学生的外国语,要使学生明白做什么和如何做是教师进行教学的第一步,教师的课堂指令不清楚而让学生感到不知所措将使英语教学变成空谈。根据小学生的生理、心理特点在教学中要充分体现语言教学的人文性。除了知道如何教以外,更要知道为什么要这样教的目的。所以心理学和教育学理论知识。尤其是儿童心理学知识对小学英语教师特别重要。英语教师应当研究和掌握教学的一般规律和基本教学原则,熟悉教学组织的步骤和措施,把英语教学理论和教育、心理理论结合起来,努力提高英语教学的组织能力和教育实践能力。
