The passage talks about some benefits which salvage logging that could deal with disasters by forest fires brought to us. However, the speaker in the lecture refutes the idea that salvage logging seems not having those benefits.
First of all, the reading made the point that by removing the remain of dead trees though salvage logging; it could be helpful for forest areas to recover from the disaster. The speaker, in contract, held a absolutely different view that it is not necessary to remove the remain of dead trees. First, new trees themselves could growth in the areas. In addition, when removing the remains, in the soil some nutrition which benefit to the growth of new tree are also removed.
