In other macro-economic ways China has been facing the problems of securing external and domestic balance in her economy, and in particular in securing a better sectoral balance between the various major components of her economy. These are difficult tasks in any economy in today's interconnected world and especially so where the scale of adjustment, restructuring, consolidation and improvement is as vast as it is in Chinese's case. The reward so far has been an impressive rate of growth — the more commendable against the unfavourable world background until relatively recently of recession — and a reasonable stability of prices.
