The origin of the Spring Festival:

As for the origin of the Spring Festival, in the old days, due to the absence of ancient documents (qin shihuang burned books), it was impossible to directly verify its origin. In the historical development and evolution, most of the traditional festivals after qin and han dynasties were attached with some legends to replace their original origin. The Spring Festival is no exception, has also been attached to the "evil beast to avoid the year" and other stories as its origin.

1、Story ONE: shun succeeded the tribal leader

Legend has it that one day in 2000 BC, shun (leader of the ancient tribal alliance) followed the leader of the tribal alliance, leading his men to worship heaven and earth. From then on, people take this day as the first day of the first lunar month. It is said that this is the origin of the lunar New Year, later called the Spring Festival.

2、Story TWO: the legend of nian beast

In ancient China, there was a kind of strange beast called "nian", which was very cruel in nature. Every year at the turn of winter and spring, it often came out to hurt people and animals and destroy the countryside.

At that time, some clever and brave people came up with a clever plan: to build a woodpile in the yard, and put a table outside the gate with pig's head, cow's head, sheep's head, dog's head, realgar wine and so on. That is called "year" after the monster saw pig head, sheep and so on, immediately comes, opens the mouth, wants to eat. People saw the monster came, immediately lit the woodpile, beat drums and gongs, set off firecrackers, immediately the firelight sky, drums and gongs, firecrackers sound incessant, the monster scared to flee.

Since then every New Year's eve, every family paste red couplets, set off firecrackers; Every candle is burning brightly and every watchman is waiting for the New Year. < / p > < p > early in the morning, but also go to kiss friends daoxi say hello. This custom spread more and more widely, has become the Chinese folk most solemn traditional festival.

3、Story THREE: blessing good wishes

The Chinese New Year, the word "year", is a good year, grain harvest means.

For thousands of years, people have been the lunar harvest is called "good year", the first day of the first month as the "year", every day on this day, everywhere gongs and drums hubbub, jubilant, later, people on this day as the first year, a year began to become the Chinese nation and the world's Chinese people a most grand traditional festival.

Most of the ancient traditional festivals were formed when the ancients chose auspicious days for sacrifice to thank the gods of heaven and earth and ancestors for their kindness.

Extension:Chinese culture has a long history, broad and profound, the Spring Festival culture as an important part of the long history of Chinese culture, its formation contains deep and rich cultural connotation. Traditional festivals attach importance to faith and sacrificial activities, and spiritual faith is the core of traditional festivals.

CHINESE NEW YEAR

Chinese New Year starts with the New Moon on the first day of the new year and ends on the full moon 15 days later. The 15th day of the new year is called the Lantern Festival, which is celebrated at night with lantern displays and children carrying lanterns in a parade.

The Chinese calendar is based on a combination of lunar and solar movements. The lunar cycle is about 29.5 days. In order to "catch up" with the solar calendar the Chinese insert an extra month once every few years (seven years out of a 19-yearcycle). This is the same as adding an extra day on leap year. This is why, according to the solar calendar, the Chinese New Year falls on a different date each year.

New Year's Eve and New Year's Day are celebrated as a family affair, a time of reunion and thanksgiving. The celebration was traditionally highlighted with a religious ceremony given in honor of Heaven and Earth, the gods of the household and the family ancestors.

The sacrifice to the ancestors, the most vital of all the rituals, united the living members with those who had passed away. Departed relatives are remembered with great respect because they were responsible for laying the foundations for the fortune and glory of the family.

The presence of the ancestors is acknowledged on New Year's Eve with a dinner arranged for them at the family banquet table. The spirits of the ancestors, together with the living, celebrate the onset of the New Year as one great community. The communal feast called "surrounding the stove" or weilu. It symbolizes family unity and honors the past and present generations.
