Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year is the most important festival for Chinese people all over the world. It is also called the Spring Festival or the Lunar New Year. The exact date of the Spring Festival on the Western calendar changes from year to year. However, Chinese New Year takes place between January 1 and February 19.
On the Chinese calendar every year has an animal's name. These animals are the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, ram, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. A Chinese legend says that these twelve animals had a race. The first year was named after the rat, the winner. The other eleven years were named according to the order in which the animals arrived in the race. The clever rat jumped onto the ox's back, and then at the end jumped over the ox's head to arrive first!
The Chinese believe that a person born in a particular year has some of the characteristics of that animal.

New Year’s Day looks like a little child who is jumping and laughing. Look! It is coming slowly. It brings a sense of happiness and fortune. On that day we give our friends and teachers lots of presents to express our deep love and best wishes. We recall “yesterday” the moment we hope we can have a good new year. The New Year means that we will begin a completely new life. On the last day of 2006, our class held a party to celebrate the New Year’s Day, our classroom which was decorated meticulously was more beautiful than before;smile lit up everyone’s face. A lot of wonderful programs were put on by our classmates. We were attracted by the humorous performance. Smile became a theme on that day. After the performances, we saw a film whose leading actors are Jackie Chen, Gu Tianle and a baby. We all had a good evening.
New Year’s Day means beginning a new era. There are many unforgettable things in the year 2006, but I believe I can do better in 2007, which is filled with hope and happiness.

Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year is a Chinese traditional festival. We also call it the Spring Festival. It is on lunar January 1st.
On New Year’s Eve, all the people sit around the desk and have a big family dinner. There are some vegetables, some fish, some meat, some fruits and some drink like juice, Coke, Pepsi and some nice wine. Overall, this is a good and delicious dinner. After dinner, we always watch TV New Year progammes. We have a wonderful evening on New Year’s Eve.
On the first day of the Spring Festival, most of people get up early and say “happy new year” to each other. For breakfast, people often eat dumplings and baozi. After breakfast, people often make many delicious foods, and children often play cards, computer games and fireworks. On the second and third day, we visit friends and relatives.
Everyone is busy on Chinese New Year, and everyone is happy, too.

New Year is the most important, interesting festival in China.
Before the Chinese New Year, everyone is very busy. They want the Spring Festival to be a new beginning, so everyone is busy cleaning the room. They keep the room tidy. This is the first thing to welcome the Spring Festival.
The elderly take children to buy snacks and fireworks. But parents just stay at home to make tasty meals for dinner. On the evening of New Year’s Eve, my parents and my sister have dinner with me. We have a good time. After dinner, Oh! Yeah! My father is ready to give us red pockets. Oh, how nice the red pockets are! My sister and I both all say, “Peace all year round to my parents! Now, give us red pockets.” My parents give us the red pockets at once with a smile on their faces.
What a wonderful time we have!
I think “Everything goes well” this year!
