Textbook Development - Be Part of the Team
Become part of the magic of myHogwarts by contributing to the development of Hogwarts textbooks for Hogwarts courses.
Volunteer Responsiblities
Every week, you will select a topic from a pre-written outline and write three pages (single-spaced) on that topic.
Every Sunday, your entry will be due. Late and missing entries will not be tolerated. You must be willing to commit to writing 30 pages total between February 12 and April 22. The content will be a mixture of material based on the canon and original content. I will be looking for creativity and thoroughness in your application. Each application should be 3-5 paragraphs.
Please read the following book titles and descriptions to give you a better idea of the type of work you'll be doing.
Magical Drafts and Potions: This book will contain full recipes, explanations of the usage and history of various potions, as sections on general potion-making topics, such as color identification of potions, and stirring techniques. For your application, write about an original (made-up) potion, including information on its appearance, creation, and usages. Please do not include the potion’s recipe.
Astronomy: NOTE—previous knowledge of Astronomy is required. Your entries must fit with Muggle research on the topic! This textbook will speak of various elements of our solar system, and their affects on the magical world. For your entry, please write about any astronomical topic of your choice.
Magical Theory: This textbook will speak primarily of wand technique, and serve as a supplemental text in Transfiguration, Charms, and Defense Against the Dark Arts classes. The textbook will also include information on topics such as non-verbal spells and experimental magic. For your application, please write about non-verbal spells.
A Guide to Transfiguration: This will be the primary textbook for Transfiguration, with in-depth instruction on the technique and complex rules of this branch of magic. For your application, please write about any one of Gamp’s Laws which is no discussed in the Harry Potter biographies (made-up).
A Guide to Self-Protection: This textbook will discuss defense against various magical herbs and beasts, potions, and spells, and will serve as the primary textbook for Defense Against the Dark Arts classes. For your application, please write about defending oneself against hinkpunks.
Hand-outs: You will write about various topics, and provide handouts for several different subjects. For your application, please write two paragraphs on the handling of Venemous Tentacula, and two paragraphs on the wand technique for Wingardium Leviosa. 展开
