The series is distributed by Warner Bros. and produced by David Heyman, and stars Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, along with Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley and Emma Watson as Hermione Granger.
The films chronicle the adventures of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, three young wizards, at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and their many encounters with the dark wizard Lord Voldemort. The series consists of eight films, beginning with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001) and ending with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011).
The films were directed by Chris Columbus in the first two installments, Alfonso Cuarón in the third and fourth films, and David Yates in the remaining four films. The screenplays were written by Steve Kloves, except for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, which was co-written by Michael Goldenberg.
The series has a worldwide box office total of over $7 billion, making it the third-highest-grossing film series in history. It received numerous awards and nominations, including Academy Awards, BAFTA Awards, and Golden Globe Awards.
