He is quite worn out from years of hard work. He is not the man ____he was twenty years ago.
A. which B. that C. who D.whom 答案是B
百度知道上很多人都问了这题，但是我觉得没有一个人解释的是对的。
我选的是D.
这里填的连接词是要在定语从句里作表语；难道whom只能是作宾语才能填吗，作表语就不能填吗？只能是宾语吗？那who 呢，为什么不能用who? 为什么要用that呢，这里先行词the man也没有什么特殊的修饰词啊？

答案B，that是正确的。
that 引导的定语从句在指人时：
1. 泛指某人时。如：He is a man that is never at a loss.
2. 主句是以作主语的who开头的特殊问句，为了避免重复时。如：
Who is the person that is talking with our headmaster?
3. 先行词前有the same时。如：This is the same man that gave us a talk last year.
4. 关系代词在定语从句中作表语时。如：
He has changed. He was not the man (that) he was 10 years ago.
就是第4种情况：关系代词在定语从句中作表语时就用that.

定语从句的引导词有些在句中必须做成分，有些不做成分，由引导词的类别决定 同谓语从句引导词必不做成分
其中，人称代词引导的定语从句必须做成分的。而定语从句是完整的主系表结构，所以，whom、which和who都不对，因为它们是人称代词
