Long, long ago there was a poor family. They had one son. The son often went out to steal. Every time he brought something home, his mother was happy. Once he brought back a wallet with a lot of money in it. Instead of asking him how and where he got it. She said, "That's very good."

Many years passed. The little boy grew up and became a thief. One day he was caught and thrown into prison. Soon he was sentenced to death (被判死刑), but the judge (法官) said that he could have one last wish before his death. The son asked for his mother.
