When misunderstood, people usual have two options--explain or do nothing.
He who chooses not to explain will prove with action that he has indeed been misunderstood. Painful as the process may be, he will stand to gain more in the end. A person who explains may find witnesses and/or material evidence to prove his innocence. But in the real society full of mutual deception and using others for one's own good, the explanation may not necessarily be given credence.
